In an effort to boost trade and offer local and international companies more opportunities to trade with each other, the Botswana Investment and Trade Centre (BITC) offers the Botswana Trade Portal. The Trade Portal is a virtual platform managed by BITC, and was developed with the assistance of the World Bank in an effort to make available, in a single integrated website, all regulatory trade related information for import and export in Botswana.
In light of the global village we are living in, the Trade Portal aims at providing real time, transparent and predictable trade information, and by so doing increases the trade regulation compliance level whilst also reducing the cost of doing business for traders. The Trade Portal has proven to be instrumental in the business community both in local and in foreign countries. It is also of great assistance to researchers in providing information on trade procedures and documentation in Botswana.
The Trade Portal is constantly and consistently updated with content aimed at assisting the end user access to up to date and factual information.
Botswana Trade Portal Provides the following:
· Information on trade including laws and regulations, applicable fees, standards, procedures, guidance notes, forms, licenses and permits;
· Information on applicable tariffs for all trade agreements that Botswana is signatory to;
· All bilateral, regional and international trade agreements that Botswana is party to, including applicable rules, regulations and requirements;
· Prceudres and requirements for import or transit goods;
· Links to other important information sources;
· An Enquiry Point is also available in the portal for trade related questions, which will be addressed by the Portal Administrator within 3 days.
To ensure information is credible and up to date, the Trade Portal Team works with nominated Focal persons in different trade support institutions such as Botswana United Revenue Services, Government Departments and Botswana Export Credit Insurance for constant update of their static information in the Portal, as well as, updated on news and events about their organisations that need to be communicated to the business community.
