Get ready to change your Game Plan for 2020!

Let us talk a little about Personal PR. Or as it is common, Personal Branding. I prefer using Personal PR because PR incorporates the complete essence of a brand- image, the brand itself and most importantly, content.

Hi. I am Shaka, and I am a Life Coach.


So I believe in crafting what I call a Personal PR Strategy. This is because a strategy has structure, process and it has definite results to be accomplished over a set period of time.

With that said, what then does it take to build a Personal PR Strategy?


Firstly, we need to understand the stated make up of Personal PR. To do this, I use what I term the 3 Cents to Personal PR. These are represented in a circular format (like the earth), with the crust being the outer 3rd cent, all the way to the core being the inner 1st cent of Personal PR, as below.


1 The 3rd Outer Cent (the crust of Personal PR): There are two aspects that represent the outer cent.


The way you look. Most of us believe you have to look good in order to be taken seriously as a brand. Granted, yes. But Personal PR is not only about looking good but it is specifically about dressing well for your target audience. This is because looking good is easy, but being well represented is crucial.

The way you walk. Not only is your posture necessary for your physical stature but your walk is also important for your personal brand. Personal PR tasks you to walk tall and to walk like you belong. Mostly considerably, it speaks to walking with purpose. This is further elaborated below.


2 The 2nd Cent of Personal PR:


The way you handle yourself. This may sound broad because there are many aspects that relate to how you handle yourself. But all of these are essential in defining your overall brand. For instance, this cent addresses way you speak, the way you respond, the gestures you use, the nature of your laugh or simply how you react to socially awkward situations, to offensive statements or mere compliments. It also speaks to your general tone of voice based on the conversation and the particular circumstance. This cent is most ignored in building a personal brand.


2 The 1st Cent (the core of Personal PR): The core by its nature signifies the essence of something. And so this cent represents the crux of Personal PR.


Content. This is particularly vital in building your personal brand because it embodies what you are able to offer your target audience- your business networks, colleagues, associates and friends.


What areas add to your content?


Your content is based on what you feed your mind and your intellect. This is then reflected in the material you read, the videos you watch, what you listen to and who you frequently engage with. Most importantly, content is created by not only what you absorb from the above, but mostly by what you retain. As such, paying close attention to what you feed yourself directly affects what you ultimately retain as your content. Feeding your content nurtures your beliefs & principles, views & opinions, ideologies & perceptions, your interests & habits and overall impressions. All these form who you are and detail what you can offer your specific market. And so content is key to Personal PR as it indicates an overall representation of yourself. Thus, you can effortlessly, walk with purpose as already indicated.


So how do we build a Personal PR Strategy?

With the above three cents, it is necessary to note that they are not industry or market specific, but their application runs across a range of audiences. And so the first task in building your Personal PR Strategy is defining your target audience. This will influence all the other aspects of Personal PR and effectively direct the strategy creation process. The strategy is then aligned to said audience and speaks to your defined market in order to add value to the market by building the right content. This will also directly impact your social media strategy and presence.
